The
Refuge

In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains;
it will be raised above the hills, and people will stream to it.  Many nations will come and say, “come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of God of Jacob.”           Micah 4:1-2

Our church can be Your home.

Sermon Notes

A Prayer With Depth

Text:         Philippians 1:9-11

Thesis:      Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, and thanksgiving,

                  present your request to God.”  Philippians 4:6

I. The Apostle Paul was a ___________________________ Christian.

A.  Prayer __________________________ you the throne room of God.

I know a man in Christ who fourteen years ago was caught up to the third heaven.  Whether it was in the body or out of the body I do not know ~ God knows.  And I know that this man ~ whether in the body or apart from the body I do not know, but God knows ~ was caught up to paradise.  He heard inexpressible things, things that man is not permitted to tell.  (2Corinthians 12:2-4)

B. Prayer empowers your walk with Christ.

II. The Apostle Paul prays for _________________________ persons’ need.

A. Paul has the ___________________________ to think of someone else’s need while chained in prison.

B.  Paul prays the following petition:

And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless until the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Chris ` to the glory and praise of God.  (Philippians 1:11)

1.  The Greek word for “love” is not eros (erotic) or philia (brotherly love), types of human love but agape (divine love).

2.  The Greek word for “abound” literally means “may keep on overflowing”.

3.  The Greek word for “knowledge” suggests a complete understanding of “general moral principles”.

4.  The Greek word for “discern” means the ability to apply the moral principles to a particular situation.

C.  The Apostle Paul wanted them to have the ______________________ God had to offer and not settle for less.

* Your eternal future

* Your life long spouse

* Your employment
