Text Box:  The Spirit of Christ Jesus Will Sustain You
 
TEXT:        Acts 17:1-9
THESIS:    And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Counselor to be with you
                   forever-- the Spirit of truth. (John 14: 16-17)
 
         I.       Once again the Apostle Paul is strategically sent to a major crossroad of
                  ___________________.
 
                  A.      Thessalonica was part of the “Roman Road” that connected the East to the
                           West.
 
                           1.      God ___________________ thrust the believer into the “Agora”
                                    (city square) of humanity.
 
                  B.      Thessalonica was a multi-cultural center.
 
Some of the Jews were persuaded and joined Paul and Silas, as did a large
number of God-fearing Greeks and not a few prominent women.  (Acts 17:4)
 
                           1.      Our new ___________________ in Christ Jesus supersedes all other
                                    identities.
 
There is neither Jew nor Greek, slave nor free, male nor female,
for you are all one in Christ Jesus. (Galatians 3:28)
 
                  C.     Every person is “created in God’s Image”. (Genesis 1:27)
 
         II.      The Thessalonians in spite of persecution became examples to all believers.
 
                  A.      In difficult times will I ___________________ against God or keep a right
                           attitude?
 
                  B.      A Christ-like example can give ___________________ to others.
 
                           1.      People find ___________________ in another person’s strength.
 
                  C.     Be aware that grumbling is ___________________. 
 
                           1.      A persons complaining can trigger an ___________________ of
                                    negativism in those around them.
 
                  D.     Difficulty given to God can produce inner- strength that is evident in the
                           following ways:
 
                           1.      Obedience ~ “Before I was afflicted I went astray, but now I obey your
                                    word.”  (Psalms 119:67)
 
                           2.      Eternal Glory ~ “For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for
                                    us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all.”  (2 Corinthians. 4:17)
 
                           3.      Perseverance, Character & Hope ~ “Not only so, but we also rejoice in
                                    our sufferings, because we know that suffering produces perseverance;
                                    perseverance, character; and character, hope.  And hope does not
                                    disappoint us.”  (Romans 5:3-4)
 
         III.     The Apostle Paul’s final words in 1 Thessalonians 5: 23-24 are, “May God
                  himself, the God of peace sanctify you through and through”.
