Text Box:  The Apostle Paul Travels the Extra Mile   TEXT:         Acts 16:6-39 THESIS:     Our commitment to God is tested when we are asked to go the extra mile for Jesus.            I.       God _____________________ Paul to Macedonia. (vs. 9)                     A.      Paul _____________________ a “vision of a man of Macedonia standing and                            begging him, come over to Macedonia and help us.”  (vs 9)   “Macedonia was at this time a Roman province.  In spite of its dominance over Greece under Philip, and its conquest of Egypt and Syria under the brilliant leadership of Alexander the Great, it was finally conquered by the Romans in 168 BC and made into a Roman province in 146 BC.” (Beacon Bible Commentary)                              1.      Paul sails from Troas to the coastal town of Neapolis (Kavala today) and then                                     walk ten miles to Philippi.  (vs. 12)            QUESTION:  Have you ever walked ten miles to go and share Christ with anyone?   Jesus said “If someone forces you to go one mile, go with him two miles.”  (Matthew 5:41)            “Forces”  The Greek verb comes from a Persian word meaning “press into service” and is used                            in Matthew 27:32 where the Roman soldiers pressed Simon into service to carry                            Jesus’ cross.            II.      The Apostle Paul _____________________ Jesus Christ and Lydia and her family                   were saved.  (vss 13-15)                     A.      Lydia was a woman of wealth.   “The purple dye had to be gathered drop by drop from a certain shell-fish and was so costly that to dye a pound of wool with it would take the equivalent of L150 in our money”  (William Barkley)                     B.      Lydia’s immediate reaction to her salvation was to offer the ____________________                            of her house to Paul and his friends.   “Share with God’s people who are in need.  Practice hospitality.”  Romans 12:13                     C.      Lydia’s family’s salvation _____________________ hers.                     D.      Lydia and her family were _____________________.   ...............................................................................................................................................................   Evening Service                                Paul & Silas Imprisoned            III.     The Apostle Paul on his way “to the place of prayer”, (vs. 16) “In the _____________                  of Jesus, commanded an evil spirit to come out of the slave girl.  (vs. 18)                     A.      There is ______________ in prayer and the church is a _______________ of prayer.                     B.      There is power in the _____________________ of Jesus.                     C.      there were those who were angry with the _____________________.                     D       Paul and Silas were beaten and thrown in _____________________ .  (vss. 19b-24)                     E.      “About midnight Paul and Silas were _________________  and _________________                             hymns to God...
