           Ascension Day
 
 
Text: Acts 1:1-11
Thesis: Today Jesus sits on the right hand of the father interceding       for you and I.
 
 I.   “Jesus appeared to them over a period of 40 days”. (vs. 3b)
             A. Jesus gave physical                                        of his resurrection.
                  Then he said to Thomas, "Put your finger here; see my hands.                   Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and                   believe." (John 20:27)
                          1.  It is not                                            or humanly possible                                to experience the torturous beating and crucifixion that                                Jesus received and be able to function with in three                                      days, unless there was a miracle.
                              (see Case for Christ, pages 253-274)
                          2. “Jesus gave convincing proof he was alive.”(vs.3a)
             B.  Jesus was always very                          and public in his life                              and miracles.
For what I received I passed on to you as of first importance: that Christ died for our sins according to the Scriptures, that he was buried, that he was raised on the third day according to the Scriptures, and that he appeared to Peter, and then to the Twelve. After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep. Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last of all he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born. (1Cor. 15:3-8)
                          1. “Jesus gave                                                        proof that                               he was alive.”(vs.3a)
                          2.  The supernatural claims about Christ were viewed by                                the                                        and not done in private as                                  or the claims of other religious leaders and their 
                               movements.
 
 II.  Jesus                                  to send the Holy Spirit to them.(vss.4-5)
             A.  The Holy Spirit will give he first disciples as well as the 21st                            disciples and all others                                    .
             B.  Jesus does not want our primary focus to be on when he 
                   returns but seeking the infilling of the Holy Spirit.
                          1.  Focus on “today” and not quitting time.
 
III.  Jesus wants again demonstrates his divine power over the 
       natural                                      .
             A.  Jesus defies the laws of gravity when he ascends into heaven.
             B.  Jesus now                                   on the right hand of the father                    interceding for you and I.
