$Text Box: Why I Preach on Tithing Text: Mark 12:41-44 Thesis: Tithing is a truth and practice that God has called all of his Children to follow. I. …because tithing is a ___________________ taught in the Bible. A. The first place scripture records God’s people bringing an offering to God is: Gen. 4:4 “But Abel brought fat portions from some of the firstborn of his flock. The LORD looked with favor on Abel and his offering,” B. ________________ the Old and New Testaments teach tithing. “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house.” (Malachi 3:10) “You give a tenth of your spices--mint, dill and cummin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law--justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former. (Matthew 23:23) C. “It (Tithing) was practiced by men 500 years ____________the giving of the law to Moses. Abraham gave a tenth to the priest of God.” Fletcher C. Spruce (Gen. 14:20; Heb. 7:2) II. …because God has called pastors to preach the ________________ truth. A. There are _______________ truths in the Bible such as “Love the Lord thy God…, Love thy neighbor…, Thou shalt not steal, honor thy parents, bring the whole tithe into the storehouse” and etc. We must seek to follow all truth and not pick and choose according to our likes and dislikes. B. I (pastors & teachers) will stand before God and give an account. “Not many of you should presume to be teachers, my brothers, because you know that we who teach will be judged more strictly.” (James 3:1) III. …because I do not want you to miss out on God’s ___________________ that come from tithing. A. God says in the OT: “Bring the whole tithe into the storehouse, that there may be food in my house. Test me in this," says the LORD Almighty, "and see if I will not throw open the floodgates of heaven and pour out so much blessing that you will not have room enough for it. I will prevent pests from devouring your crops, and the vines in your fields will not cast their fruit," says the LORD Almighty. Then all the nations will call you blessed, for yours will be a delightful land," says the LORD Almighty. (Malachi 3:10-12) B. God’s says in the NT: “Give and it will be given to you. A good measure, pressed down, shaken together and running over, will be poured into your lap. For with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." (Luke 6:38) C. God ________________________ your unique contribution. “But a poor widow came and put in two very small copper coins, worth only a fraction of a penny. “ Calling his disciples to him, Jesus said, ‘I tell you the truth, this poor widow has put more into the treasury than all the others.’” (Luke21:42-43)$
