Text:    James 1:26-27
Thesis: True worshippers worship God in word and deed.

I. James is pointing out that the finest rituals and ceremonies we can practice in our worship services will not ______________________for helping those in need and keeping oneself pure.
             A. James is not saying that public ___________________ of God is unimportant.
                          1. James further instructs in chapter 4,
7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. 8 Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded.
9 Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. 10 Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
a. The worship service is not only designed for praise but ________________________ of sin to God.
             B. Jesus states,  23 Yet a time is coming and has now come when the true worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth, for they are the kind of worshipers the Father seeks. 24 God is spirit, and his worshipers must worship in spirit and in truth." John 4
             C. James in this passage is specifically concerned about the sins of the  __________________.(See vs. 26)
                          1. James addresses this in more detail in chapter 3 verses 1-12.
                          2. James speaks of the tongue in the context of worship in verse 9 of chapter 3. He states, 9 With the tongue we praise our Lord and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in God's likeness.
                          3. God’ Word states, 19 When words are many, sin is not absent,
but he who holds his tongue is wise. Proverbs 10

II. By God’s leading James instructs us to _________ “the widows and orphans” as an act of “pure worship.”
             A. Jesus always instructs and ____________ taking care of the “least of these”.
42  “’For I was hungry and you gave me nothing to eat, I was thirsty and you gave me nothing to drink, 43 I was a stranger and you did not invite me in, I needed clothes and you did  not clothe me, I was sick and in prison and you did not look after  me.’
44 They also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see you hungry or thirsty or a stranger or needing clothes or sick or in prison, and did not help you?’
45 He will reply, `I tell you the truth, whatever you did not do for one   of the least of these, you did not do for me.’
46 "Then they will go away to eternal punishment, but the righteous to eternal life. "Matthew 25
