                               Faith and Action Working Together

Text: James 2:14-26
Thesis: “Abraham’s faith was made complete by what he did.” (vs22)

 I. “Faith by itself, if it is not accompanied by action is dead.”(vss14-16)
             A. James teaches and illustrates that true faith in Christ will result                    in wanting to help your brother or sister in a _______________                   way.
             B.  Faith that results in action demonstrates that we have a
__________________________ with Christ that is alive.
                          1. Our belief in Christ compels us to _________________                              Christ and Jesus was always active in ministry.
“I (Jesus) must be about my father’s business.” (Luke 2:49 KJV)
             C. We are ____________ or adopted into families, we do not                   work our way into a family.
12 Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his                                 name, he gave the right to become children of God-- 13 children                   born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband's                 will, but born of God. (John 1)
3 In reply Jesus declared, "I tell you the truth, no one can see the                kingdom of God unless he is born again. (John 3)
8 For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith--and this                         not from yourselves, it is the gift of God-- 9 not by works, so that no                one can boast. (Ephesians 2)
             D. However, once you are in the family there will be deeds or works                  that the Father has __________________________ for you to do.
10 For we are God's workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do                  good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.                  (Ephesians 2)

II. Faith and Action working together produces God’s will. (vs22)
             A. James teaches and illustrates that his will was made complete                   after Abraham was ________________________
             B. An emotional ____________________experience alone is not                       sufficient to carry out God’ will.
“It is not how high you jump that counts but how straight you walk                when you hit the ground.” Unknown
             C. God calls idle words and failed promises “lip service.”
23 Whatever your lips utter you must be sure to do, because you                   made your vow freely to the LORD your God with your own                    mouth. (Deuteronomy 23)
"These people come near to me with their mouth and honor me with                their lips, but their hearts are far from me. (Isaiah 29:13)
21 "Not everyone who says to me, `Lord, Lord,' will enter the              kingdom of heaven, but only he who does the will of my Father              who is in heaven. (Matthew 7)
