 What Child is This?

 Text:   Luke 2:1-7
Thesis:  Jesus is the Christmas gift from God to man.

 I.  Jesus is our “down to earth” ___________.
    A.  God literally ___________________down to us (earth) – Immanuel,               “God with us.”
In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.  He was with God in the beginning.  The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us.  We have seen his glory, the glory of the One and Only, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth. (John 1:1-2,14)
    B.  Jesus was born to a rural, blue collar ______________.
         1.  Jesus was “born in a __________.” (It was actually a cave used as a  barn.)
         2.  You can feel _______________________ around Jesus.
But the LORD said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him.  The LORD does not look at the things man   looks at.  Man looks at the outward appearance, but the LORD looks at the   heart.” (I Samuel 16:7)
    C.  Jesus’ birth was humble, but _______________.
But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a  dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as  your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.  She will give  birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.” (Matthew 1:20-21)

II.  Jesus can be known by ________________________.
     A.  Yet to all who received him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God.” (John 1:12)

1:12  he gave the right.  Membership in God’s family is by grace alone—the  gift of God (see Eph. 2:8-9).  It is never a human achievement, as v. 13
emphasizes; yet imparting of the gift is dependent on man’s reception
of it, as the words “received” and “believed” make clear.
        (Compton’s Commentary)
1.  Jesus wants to be your Lord, Savior and ________________.
A man of many companions may come to ruin, but there is a friend     who sticks closer than a brother.  (Proverbs 19:24)
2.  Jesus is ___________________now.
Those whom I love I rebuke and discipline.  So be earnest, and repent.   Here I am!  I stand at the door and knock.  If anyone hears my voice and  opens the door, I will come in and eat with him, and he with me.
                (Rev. 3:19-20)
