A Pilgrim’s Progress

 Text:      Philippians 4:13
Thesis: With God’s help we can successfully live in this life while preparing for heaven.

 I.  With God’s help we can be good stewards of our ___________________.
“For physical training is of some value, but godliness has value for all things, holding   promise for both the present life and the life to come.  (I Timothy 4:8)
       A.  The _______________ is the temple of God.
“Do you not know that your body is a temple of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom          you have received from God?  You are not your own; you were bought at a price.  Therefore honor God with your body.” (I Corinthians 6:19-20)
1.  Be sexually _________________.
“Flee from sexual immorality.  All other sins a man commits are outside his body,  but he who sins sexually sins against his own body.
(I Corinthians 6:18)
                  2.  Do not allow your __________________________ to be your god.
“Their destiny is destruction, their god is their stomach, and their glory is in their   shame.  Their mind is on earthly things.  But our citizenship is in heaven.  And we eagerly await a Savior from there, the Lord Jesus Christ, who, by the power that enables him to bring everything under his control, will transform our lowly bodies so that they will be like his glorious body.  (Philippians 3:19-21)
                   3.  “Physical training is of some _________________.”  (I Timothy 4:3)
                               a.  Physical activities sure help, but they are not the cure-all for everything.

II. With God’s help we can establish a Godly ______________________.
“If anyone does not provide for his relatives, and especially for his immediate family, he  has denied the faith and is worse than an unbeliever.  (I Timothy 5:8)
  A.  Turn your ____________________ toward home.
             1.  ________________ the Bible that is on the coffee table.
             2.  __________________a picture of Jesus above the television.
             3.  _____________ home with your family and while you are there ____________                       with them.
             4.  ______________ together at meals, before bed times and etc.
             5.  ____________ together as a family.
             6.  _____________ together as a family.
Sarah said, “God has brought me laughter, and everyone who hears about this  will laugh with me.”  (Genesis 21:6)

III. With God’s help we can be a true citizen of ____________________.
“And they admitted that they were aliens and strangers on earth.  People who say such things show that they are looking for a country of their own.  If they had been thinking of the country they had left, they would have had opportunity to return.  Instead, they were longing for a better country—a heavenly one.  Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared a city for them.  (Hebrews 11:14-16)
          A.  While on earth, do everything possible to maintain your citizenship in heaven.
1.  Jesus said, “Make every effort to enter through the narrow door, because many, I  tell you, will try to enter and will not be able to”.  (Luke 13:24)
2.  Jesus also points out, “For wide is the gate and broad is the road that leads to destruction, and ______________ enter through it.  But small is the gate and narrow the road that leads to life, and only a few find it.”  (Matthew 7:13-14)
           B.  Pray that God will, “...lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one.”
                   (Matthew 6:13)
           C.  Be aware of the ________________ of the “end times”.
“Be careful, or your hearts will be weighed down with dissipation, drunkenness and the anxieties of life, and that day will close on you unexpectedly like a trap.  For it will come upon all those who live on the face of the whole earth.  Be always on your watch, and pray that you may be able to escape all that is about to happen, and that you may be able to stand before the Son of Man.”  (Luke 21:34-36)
