Text Box:     Reasons to be Faithful    Text:     2 Timothy 1:1-7 Thesis: Still another said, “I will follow you, Lord; but first let me go back and say good-by to my family.”  Jesus replied, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”  (Luke 9:61-62)    I.  As Christians, we are part of a great history and ______________called the Church. A.  Paul reminds Timothy of his Godly __________________ that handed him the baton of the Christian faith.  (see verse 5) B.  God’s Word further reminds us that the believers that ____________ us lived faithful Godly lives. “Therefore, since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us.”  (Hebrews 12:1) C. Our Children, Grandchildren and future generations need us to continue to __________the Church for them.    II.  As Christians, the Apostle Paul reminds Timothy and us that we have been _____________________ with a spiritual gift from God.  (see verse 6) A. God has given every Christian a ___________ when we received the Holy Spirit. (see 1 Corinthians 7:7) B. God lists some of the Spiritual Gifts in Romans 12:5-8 C. Paul reminds Timothy not to let his gift lay idle but to “________ into flame the gift of God” (vs 6)    III.  As Christians, the Apostle Paul reminds Timothy and us that we have been given a spirit of courage, power, love and self-discipline. A. It takes courage to be a Christian and we derive courage from knowing _______________is with us. B. Through the Holy Spirit, God gives us the power to shoulder a load, to _____________ firm when tempted or opposed, and the power to cope when people are difficult. C. God has empowered us to __________the unlovable.   In doing this, we are the most like Christ. D. God has empowered us to be _________ disciplined Christians.  Christ can give us the power of self-mastery.
