Text Box:   A Father is Called to Instruct    Text:      Proverbs 4: 1-27 Thesis:  A Father is called to “instruct” his child and then stand on God’s                Promise    I.  Solomon as a father instructs his son to “pay _______________ and gain _________________________.” (vs. 1)              A.  We learn in this passage that the father is to be directly involved in                    the ________ and _____________________of the child.                           1.  A father’s ____________________ in a child’s life will get                               their attention.                           2.  Fathers, ____________ your life that they may see who you                                ______, what you _____________ and how much you _____.                                        “When I was a boy” 1.  Kids love their father’s stories 2.  Kids will learn that you are human too.    II.  Solomon as a father _________________ emphasizes the importance of “getting wisdom” (vs.5) and “not forsaking wisdom.” (vs. 6 )  see vs. 5-9 A.  “Wisdom” in scripture refers to God.  Jesus is the personification of “Wisdom”. B.  Solomon is concerned about his child’s “understanding” of God. C.  Here in this passage the father is revealed as overseeing and being directly involved in the religious education of the child.    III.  Solomon reveals that the father can teach but it is up to the child to ________________ the right way. A.  Solomon states “Listen, my son, ____________ what I say, and the years of your life will be many.”  (vs. 10) B.  Solomon not only instructs the child in the way he should go but admonishes him to “avoid” (vs. 15) “the path of the _____________ and do not “walk in the way of evil men.”  (vs. 14) C.
