Text Box:   God Pays the Highest Compliment THE BLESSING   Text: Mark 1:9-13 Thesis: God esteems his one and only son with a verbal blessing. This blessing prepares his son for the mission ahead and provides every parent with a pattern to use in blessing our children.    I. God the Father blesses his “one and only son” (John 3:16).              A. God pays his son the highest compliment of tribute or praise.                           1. “And a voice came from heaven: ‘You are my son…”. (vs. 11a)                           God publicly revealed _________________________.                                    2. “And a voice came from heaven: ‘You…whom I love.” (vs11b)                           God publicly revealed his heart’s _______________-love.                           3. “And a voice came from heaven: ‘with you I am well pleased.”                           (vs. 11c) God revealed that Jesus’ ___________________ was                           perfect.              B. God the Father ______________________ God the Son to be able to              face the difficult challenge of the cross.    II. Parents are to _____________God the Father’s perfect example in regard to their children.              A. Parents confirm your child’s _________________ to you by verbally              stating, “You are my daughter or son”.              B. Parents confirm your affection for your child by ____________ stating,              “I love You”.              C. Parents confirm your approval of your child’s performance by verbally              stating, “With you I am well pleased.”              D. Parents _____________ your child to carry out his God given plan              with your blessing.    III. God ____________________ wants to add his ____________ blessing upon our children as he did on Jesus. A. God’s word states, “Then little children were brought to Jesus for him              to place his hands on them and pray for them. But the disciples rebuked              those who brought them.” (Matthew 19:13) B. God works through the Church, Jesus said, “And I tell you that you are              Peter, and on this rock I will build my church, and the gates of Hades              will not overcome it.  I will give you the keys of the kingdom of              heaven; whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and what             ever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven." (Matthew 16:18-19)
