| December 1, 2002“Come, Thou Long-expected Jesus” TEXT: Luke 1: 67-75 THESIS: Jesus is Lord over the Past, Present and the Future.
I. The birth of Christ was the fulfillment of a stream of prophesies stemming from the beginning of the world. (vs 70)
A. Jesus’ coming was not an accident or a surprise to God’s people.
1. 4000 years earlier, God spoke of Christ’s coming.
“And I will put enmity between you and the woman, and between your offspring and hers; he will crush your head, and you will strike his heel.” Genesis 3: 15
2. Place of Birth Prophecy – Micah 5: 2 Fulfillment – Matthew 2: 1
3. Time of Birth Prophecy – Daniel 9: 25 Fulfillment – Luke 2: 1-2
4. Born of a Virgin Prophecy – Isaiah 7 :14 Fulfillment – Matthew 1: 18
B. God’s Word is eternal.
II. The birth of Christ was the fulfillment of prophesies concerning the salvation of everyone who would follow the Messiah. (vss 68b – 74a) A. Physical salvation is imminent to the Christian.
1. “Salvation from our enemies”
a) Sadness and sorrow b) Poverty c) Sickness and disease d) Injustice and terrorism
B. Spiritual salvation is immediate to everyone who would put their trust in Jesus Christ.
THE ABCs OF A PERSONAL RELATIONSHIP WITH CHRIST
Admit that you have sinned. For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God. Romans 3: 23. Believe that Jesus Christ died for you. Yet to all who receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God. John 1: 12 Confess that Jesus Christ is Lord of your life. That if you confess with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10: 9 |
