Text: Mark 4:35-41
Thesis: “A simple man believes anything, Proverbs 14:15
I. The disciples would have ensured their boat sea-worthy prior to sailing with Christ aboard. (vss.35&36)
A. A good sailor will have a sound vessel.
1. A leaky boat will sink in time.
B. Jesus expected the disciples to be responsible.
1. God is not going to do the work we could have done ourselves.
30 I went past the field of the sluggard, past the vineyard of the man who lacks judgment;
31 thorns had come up everywhere, the ground was covered with weeds, and the stone wall was in ruins.
32 I applied my heart to what I observed and learned a lesson from what I saw:
33 A little sleep, a little slumber, a little folding of the hands to rest—
34 and poverty will come on you like a bandit and scarcity like an armed man. Proverbs 24
PRINCIPLES TO BE APPLIED IN THE YEAR 2003
A. The Christian must do his part.
1. Pay down as much debt as possible.
2. Live within your means.
a. Beware of the American “Method of Payment” CHARGE!
3. “Make all you can, save all you can, and give all you can.” John Wesley
II. The disciples experienced extreme difficulty beyond their control.
A. Jesus was there but they failed to recognize he was in control.
1. The turbulent waters caused the disciples to believe Jesus didn’t care.
PRINCIPLES TO BE APPLIED IN THE YEAR 2003
A. The Christian must learn to trust in God.
1. Recognize that Jesus is with you now and will never leave or forsake you.
2. Trust that God holds the future.
“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight.” Proverbs 3:5-6 |
