The
Refuge

In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains;
it will be raised above the hills, and people will stream to it.  Many nations will come and say, “come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of God of Jacob.”           Micah 4:1-2

Put Your HOPE In Jesus

Text: John 11 1-44; vs. 25

Thesis: Easter is about learning to trust in Jesus for this life and the after-life.

* * *

I. Easter is about HOPE for today.

        It is normal to love the life God has given you.

B. Life has its unpredictable tragedies.

            Jesus wants us to have hope in him in the midst of tragedy.

              Mary and Martha found their hope fading because the

            circumstances of life were negative.

              Jesus was teaching Mary and Martha to trust in him. (Vss. 5-6)

        Jesus appeared to be negligent and uncaring. (Vss.14-15)

II. Easter is about HOPE for tomorrow.

        The big question.

            What will life be like for you when you die?

              The “after-life” awaits us all.

        Jesus States, “Everyone will die the first death.”

“I am the resurrection and the life. He who believes in me will live, even though he dies; and whoever lives and believes in me will never die. Do you believe this? (Vss. 25-26)

        Jesus states, “Everyone will live forever in one of two places.”

"Then the King will say to those on his right, `Come, you who are blessed by my Father; take your inheritance, the kingdom prepared for you since the creation of the world’. (vs. 34)

"Then he will say to those on his left, `Depart from me, you who are cursed, into the eternal fire prepared for the devil and his angels’. (vs 41)

        The resurrection power of God that raised Jesus from the grave will raise the

      believer to new life.

When he had said this, Jesus called in a loud voice, "Lazarus, come out!" The dead man came out, his hands and feet wrapped with strips of linen, and a cloth around his face. Jesus said to them, "Take off the grave clothes and let him go." (Vss 43 – 44)
