Marks of Distinction Text: Philippians 4:2-9 Thesis: The Christian will bear “Marks of Distinction” that will reveal he is a child of the King. I. The Mark of the Christian is Joy. (vss.2-4) A. The Apostle Paul instructs us twice in the same verse to “rejoice”. B. Joy is independent of earthly things. C. Christian Joy originates from a continual relationship with Christ. II. The Mark of a Christian is power through Prayer. (vs. 5-7) A. The Apostle Paul’s solution to worry is prayer. “Peace is the fruit of believing prayer” M. R. Vincent 1. We can pray for ourselves. 2. We can pray for forgiveness. 3. We can pray for present needs. 4. We can pray for future guidance. 5. We can pray for others. B. The Apostle Paul reveals “thanksgiving” must accompany prayer. III. The Mark of a Christian is a thought life that has been taken captive. (vs. 8-9) A. The human mind is always thinking about something. B. The Christian mind must be set on right things. “Finally, brothers, whatever is true, whatever is noble, whatever is right, whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever admirable, if anything is excellent or praiseworthy, think about such things.” (vs.8) |
