The
Refuge

In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains;
it will be raised above the hills, and people will stream to it.  Many nations will come and say, “come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of God of Jacob.”           Micah 4:1-2

“God’s Full Revelation and Presence”

Text:  Hebrews 1:1-4

Thesis:  Today God speaks to us through his son.

…………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………………..

I. Jesus Christ alone brings to mankind the full ____________________ of God.

A.    “In the past, God spoke through prophets…but in these last days he has spoken to us by his son” (vs.1)

1.     The messengers in the past were only __________________.

“Athenagoras spoke of God moving the mouths of the prophets as a man might play upon a musical instrument and of the spirit breathing into them as a flute-player breathing into a flute.”

William Barcly

DIFFICULTIES WITH THE PROPHETIC SYSTEM

·       God could only reveal what the prophets understood (the instrument was limited)

·       The prophet was characterized by fragments of the truth.

Amos ~ “A cry for social Justice”

Isaiah ~ “The holiness of God”

Hosea ~ “The forgiving love of God”

2.     In Jesus, God displayed himself in full. Jesus was not a fragment of the Truth. He is ___________________.

B.    “the son is the radiance of God’s Glory and the ___________________representation of his being.” (vs3a)

1.     To meet someone face to face is far more revealing than observing their photograph.

“In the beginning was the Word and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. The Word became flesh and lived for a while among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only son who came from the father full of grace and truth.”  John 1:1&14

II.  Jesus Christ alone brings mankind into God’s very ____________________.

A.    Jesus removed that which ____________________ us from God.

“…after he had provided purification for sins”  (vs.3c)

B.    Jesus made it possible for us to move from mere “God Talk” to _________________ to God.

“You believe that there is one God. Good!  Even the demons believe that and Shudder.”

James 2:19

C.    Jesus promises the Holy Spirit. The Holy Spirit allows us to have a ___________________ connection with God.

(see 1 Corinthians 2: 6-13)
