In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains;
it will be raised above the hills, and people will stream to it.  Many nations will come and say, “come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of God of Jacob.”           Micah 4:1-2

Jesus is “GOD IN OUR FUTURE”

 

TEXT:          John 2: 1-11

THESIS:               Jesus being God the Son is Omniscient (all-knowing) and Omnipotent (all-powerful).

THEME:               Jesus has the ability, in God’s time table, to transform our lives and our futures.

I. Mary knew of her son’s ability. (vs. 3)

 

But Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart.

Luke 2:19

 

A.      Mary informs Jesus of the lack of refreshment.

B.      Mary had something to do with the arrangements and has the authority to command the servants.

C.     Mary Commands the servants to “do whatever he (Jesus) tells you to do.

 

1.      Mary intercedes on behalf of the bride and groom to save them embarrassment.

2.      Mary reveals her faith in her son’s divine nature.

 

a.      Jesus is God the Son.

 

 

II. Jesus was divinely aware that he was to operate on God’s divine time table.

(vs. 4)

A.      Jesus came to do the will of the Father.

 

Jesus gave them this answer:

"I tell you the truth, the Son can do nothing by himself;

he can do only what he sees his Father doing,

because whatever the Father does the Son also does.

John 5:19

 

1.      Jesus demonstrates the type of obedience we are to have to God.

 

B.      Jesus operates on God’s time table.

 

“God is never late, God is never early, God is always right on time”  Unknown

 

C.     One of the Christians greatest difficulties is waiting upon the Lord.

 

“Do you not know?… Isaiah 40:28-31

 

III. Jesus Possessed the power to transform the most ordinary into the divine.

(vs. 8)

A.      Jesus instructed six stone jars to be filled.

 

1.      These type of water jars were “used by the Jews for ceremonial washing.” (vs.6)

2.      Jesus commands the jars to be filled with water not grape juice. (vs. 7)

 

a.      Water was used only for bathing ~ it was not clean enough to drink.

b.      Jesus not only transformed the substance but purified it as well.

 

B.      Jesus desires to do two things with our lives.

 

1.      Transform our lives.

 

Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!

II Corinthians 5:17

 

2.      Purify our hearts by the Baptism of the Holy Spirit.

 

May God himself, the God of peace, sanctify you through and through.

May your whole spirit, soul and body be kept blameless

at the coming of our Lord Jesus Christ.

The one who calls you is faithful and he will do it.

I Thessalonians 5: 23-24
