PROCRASTINATION PRODUCES PAIN (Part I) Text: 1 Samuel 2:12-17 and James 1:17 Theme: “No amount of success in any other area of life can compensate for a failure at home.” Unknown I. “Eli’s sons were wicked men; they had no regard for the Lord.” (vs.12) A. Their sin was grievous to God. (vs.17) 1. They lacked respect for the things of God. (vs.13-16) 2. They were arrogant and dishonest. (vs.14c-15) 3. They were immoral. (vs.22) B. Teach your children to fear (respect with awe) God and to respect the things of God. Fear the LORD, you his saints, for those who fear him lack nothing. Psalms 34:9 The fear of the LORD is the beginning of wisdom; all who follow his precepts have good understanding. Psalm 111:10 1. Do not over look the small things ~ they add up to be big things. a) Sanctuary is a place of worship. b) Word of God is not to be mocked. c) Prayer is talking to God Himself. II. God held Eli, there father, responsible. (vs.27-29) A. A parent is to “train up a child in the way he should go”. His life and soul rest on it. Train a child in the way he should go, and when he is old he will not turn from it. Folly is bound up in the heart of a child, but the rod of discipline will drive it far from him. Proverbs 22:6 & 15 III. The family of Elkanah and Hannah reveal a sharp contrast to that of Eli’s family. (vs.18-21) A. Elkanah loved his wife Hannah. (1 Samuel 1:5) B. Hannah dedicated her only son back to the Lord after he was weaned. (1 Samuel 1:24-28) C. Their son became one of the greatest prophets ordained by God. |
