The
Refuge

In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains;
it will be raised above the hills, and people will stream to it.  Many nations will come and say, “come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of God of Jacob.”           Micah 4:1-2

Our church can be Your home.

JESUS AGONIZES IN THE GARDEN

Text:      Luke 22: 39-46; Romans 12:1-2

Thesis:   Jesus demonstrates total surrender to God and unconditional love for mankind.

I. Jesus’ intense love for us hurled Him to a cruel cross.

A.    Jesus being 100% man knew what pain was all about.

Therefore, since we have a great high priest who has gone through the heavens,

Jesus the Son of God, let us hold firmly to the faith we profess.

For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses,

but we have one who has been tempted in every way, just as we are--yet was without sin.  Hebrews 4:14-15

B.    Jesus being 100% God could see into the future and know the type and degree of suffering he would face.

And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly,

and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.

Luke 22:44

1.     Jesus possessed the power to defend himself and prevent his crucifixion.

Do you think I cannot call on my Father,

and he will at once put at my disposal more than twelve legions of angels?

Matthew 26:53

2.     Jesus placed our needs ahead of his own.

II. Jesus chose to surrender to his Fathers’ Will and not his own.

"Father, if you are willing, take this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.”

Luke 22:42

A.    Jesus is our perfect example.

1.     Christianity is about Mission.

2.     Christianity is about God’s will not mine.

3.     Christianity is about loving others to the degree that I put their needs before my own.
