THE RESURRECTION AND MARRIAGE | Text: | Luke 20:27-40; (vs.35) | | Thesis: | Every Christian will experience the love of God and his resurrection power. |
I. The Primary function of marriage is to love one another. A. God is love and we are most like God when we love. 1. Marriage love is composed of “agape” love, “philao” love and “eros” love. 2. Married love is an exclusive love. II. Love (agape) will last forever. Love never fails. But where there are prophecies, they will cease where there are tongues, they will be stilled; where there is knowledge, it will pass away. And now these three remain: faith, hope and love. But the greatest of these is love. (1Corinthians 13:8, 13) A. The love you have for your spouse will continue for all eternity. 1. The contract of marriage will cease to exist but the love relationship will increase. 2. The sexual expression of married love will not be needed. It will be replaced by a higher, deeper, purer expression of love. B. We will know one another. “Now I know in part; then I shall know fully, even as I am fully known (I Corinthians 13:12b) III. Love and Marriage leaves a legacy. A. Your love will affect all those remaining and those who have passed onto heaven. 1. Even though the institution of marriage as we know it will end, the results of your love will impact heaven and all eternity.
