THE TITLE OF HONOR GRANTED BY THE KING OF KINGS Text: 1 Timothy 6:11-16 Thesis: The Christian has been granted a title of honor from God. We must wear it with excellence. I. The King of Kings and Lord of Lords grants the title. A. The Apostle Paul, as Timothy’s spiritual advisor, confirms that Timothy was granted the title “Man of God”. 1. The title of “Man of God” or “Women of God” is only granted to the select few, called “believers”. a. In the OT the title was granted to people like Moses, Samuel and other great prophets and messengers of God. In the new covenant is was granted to all “Born Again” believers like young Timothy. B. This title of honor was granted to Timothy not to remind him of past sins, but to challenge him to be God’s man. II. The King of Kings challenges us to wear our title with excellence. A. Timothy as he is sent out as an “Ambassador” of God represents God’s son to the world. 1. With the title God empowers us with His virtuous and noble qualities. a. Righteousness-(dikaiosune)the righteous man or women is made righteous and called to be righteousness before their fellowman. b. Godliness–(eusebeia)the reverence of the person who never ceases to recognize that all life is lived in the presence of God. c. Faith-( pistis) is used to emphasis loyalty. d. Love-(agape)a love so great for God you will never forget what he has done for you. e. Endurance- (hupomone)it is the unswerving constancy that never gives up in the face of adversity. f. Gentleness-(paupatheia) It is the spirit that does not become inflamed with anger over personal abuse but becomes enraged at the abuse of another. |
