GOD, THE FATHER Text: 1 Peter 1:3-9 Thesis: Dads we can learn from God who is the greatest father. I. God, The Father demonstrates “great mercy” to his children. (vs. 3a) “In his great mercy he has given us new birth…” “But God demonstrated his own love for us in this: While we were still sinners Christ died for us.”(Romans 5:8) “Blessed are the merciful for will be shown mercy.” (Matthew5:7) A. Dads, do your children see you as merciful or as harsh and unbending? Action Steps: 1. As my child’s dad and role model I will be more forgiving and I will learn to extend grace. 2. As my child’s dad, I will be more approachable? B. Children learn of God’s mercy as they experience from dad or that significant other person in their lives. II. God, the Father gives us “Living Hope.” (vs.3b) A. Dads do not show partiality to your Children but love each one equally. “Since you call a Father who judges each man’s work impartially….” (vs. 1 Peter1:17) B. “Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.” (Ephesians 6:4) III. God, the Father has the salvation of our soul in Mind. “For you are receiving the goal of your faith, the salvation of your souls.” Vs. 9 A. Dads watch over your child spiritual training with even a greater intensity than their academic studies. Action Steps: 1. I will purchase a Bible for my child and encourage them to read it. 2. I will personally take my children to Sunday school and Church. 3. I will teach my child to pray by praying in front of them and for them. 4. I will tell my child about Jesus Christ and lead them in the sinner’s prayer when they reach the age of accountability. |
