The
Refuge

In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains;
it will be raised above the hills, and people will stream to it.  Many nations will come and say, “come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of God of Jacob.”           Micah 4:1-2

Our church can be Your home.

TRUST ~ Lean Hard

TEXT:      Psalms 37: 1-8

THESIS:   Lean hard on Jesus and not on things or people.

ACTION STEP:      (1)  Do Not Fret!

(2)  Commit ~ palms down

(3)  Trust ~ lean hard

I.     Trusting is changing from independence to dependence.

A.    As parents we must teach our children to transfer dependence upon us to dependence upon God.

B.     As Christians we must learn to lean on Jesus and not insecure materialism or fickle people.

C.    “Trust” is a key word in the Psalms.

“Trust in the Lord and do good; dwell in the land and enjoy safe pasture.”

Psalm 37:13

II.  “Trusting” is opposite of “Fretting.”

A.    Jesus promises, “And lo, I am with you always, even unto the end of the world.”  Matthew 28:20

B.     Jesus will allow His disciple to experience difficulty to strengthen our trust.

1.     The first disciples experienced their share of the “storms and waves”.

C.     In a broken world it is easy to be critical and pessimistic.

“In this world you will have trouble but take heart

I have overcome the world.”  John 16:33

D.    “Fret” is a constant possibility

III.  Trust calls for an active response.

A.    Jesus’ mother went straight to her Son ~  no one else ~ when disaster struck.  (see John 2:5)

B.     Jesus called for involvement from those in need.
