Refuge

In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains;
it will be raised above the hills, and people will stream to it.  Many nations will come and say, “come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of God of Jacob.”           Micah 4:1-2

EXPECT A MIRACLE

 

TEXT:      Matthew 2: 1-12

THESIS:   “Draw near to God and He will draw near to you.”  James 4:8

 

* * *

 

I.  The Magi were good, holy men who ______________ to see Jesus. (vs 1)

 

A.     These men were ordinary people like you and I.  They were skilled in medicine, philosophy and natural science.

 

B.      These ordinary men were recorded in scripture as extraordinary men because they had a heart to know Christ .

 

“For the eyes of the Lord range throughout the earth to strengthen

those whose hearts are fully committed to him.”

(2 Chronicles 16:9)

ACTION

   STEP:        Ask God to examine your heart and transform it.

 

II.  The Magi were willing to __________________ the price to see Jesus.

 

A.     They left their homes and traveled for a long period of time to see Jesus.

 

1.       Dr. Ralph Earle in the Beacon Bible Commentary states, “The wise men were so greatly impressed by it (the star) that they trekked for many weary months to come and worship Him.”

 

2.      Matthew 2: 16 “Two years and under.”

 

B.      Avoid the desire for instant gratification.

 

ACTION

   STEP:        1.  Commit to a period of preparation

                       2.  Believe God’s promise ~ “Come to God”

                       3.  Calendar in a date

 

III.  The Magi’s’ heart and commitment to God’s call to “come”

               allowed them to experience a miracle.

 

A.     They did not give up until they found Jesus (vs 11a)

B.      The “bowed down and worshiped Him.”  (vs 11b)
