A FAITH THAT GOES TO WORK TEXT: James 2: 14-26 THESIS: “Faith without works is dead.” (vs 26) I. God’s Word consistently teaches thru basic truths about SALVATION. A. Salvation is “by grace, through faith and not by works.” “For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith ~ and this not from yourselves, it is a gift of God ~ not by works, so that no one can boast.” Ephesians 2:8-9 B. Adoption into the family of God is a “right” granted by God for everyone who receives Jesus as their Lord and Savior. C. Once in the family of God, our heavenly Father expects us to do the good work He has created for us to do. “For we are God’s workmanship, created in Christ Jesus to do good works, which God prepared in advance for us to do.” Ephesians 4: 10 “It was He who gave some to be apostles... pastors and teachers, to prepare God’s people for works of service...” Ephesians 4: 11-12 II. God reveals to James the divine CONNECTION between our faith in Christ and our God-given works. A. “Faith without works is dead.” (vs 26) FOUR PRACTICAL LIFE EXAMPLES TAUGHT IN THIS PASSAGE. 1. Faith Without deeds will leave those in need hungry. (vss 14-16) 2. Faith that does not result in deeds places your faith on the same level as demons. (vss 18-19) 3. Abraham’s faith was revealed in his obedience. (vss 20-24) 4. Rahab the prostitute’s faith was evidenced in her courageous actions. (vss 25-26) |
