Refuge

In the last days the mountain of the Lord’s temple will be established as chief among the mountains;
it will be raised above the hills, and people will stream to it.  Many nations will come and say, “come, let us go up to the mountain of the Lord,
to the house of God of Jacob.”           Micah 4:1-2

“PALMS DOWN”

 

TEXT:          Matthew 21:1-11

THESIS:      Present yourselves “Palms Down” before God.

 

* * *

 

I.  Preparations were made for Jesus’ coming.  (vss. 1-5)

 

A.     Jesus himself directed the planning of his riding into Jerusalem.

 

B.      Jesus know God the Father will send him again.

 

C.     Are we making plans for Jesus’ coming?

 

II.  The procession was exciting because King Jesus had arrived.  (vss.6-8)

 

A.     Jesus rode into Jerusalem on the colt of a donkey.

 

1.       The colt had never been ridden before.

 

B.      The crown received Jesus like a King.

 

1.       The “crowds” spread their cloaks and cut palm branches.”

 

C.     To find salvation, Jesus must be accepted as God incarnate ~ the King of Kings and Lord of Lords.

 

III.  The praise was loud and long.  (vs 9)

 

A.     A “very large” crowd shouted “Hosanna!”

 

1.       Hosanna means, “save now!”  (see Psalms 118:25)

 

B.      The crowds shouted “to the Son of David!”

 

1.       The language used is clearly Messianic

 

C.     Jesus states “If they keep quiet, the stones will cry out.”
